OMG, the interwebs have all the speed. Thx COMCAST.

I moved from point A to point B, wherein my DSL through Qwest was downgraded from 7 Mbit download to 1.5 Mbit download due to my location and the vagaries of DSL. That connection has proved to be about enough to watch a single Hulu stream, standard def. I just upgraded to COMCAST's entry level "12 Mbit" connection. The first thing I did was go do a speed test which claims my download speed to be about 21 Mbit and upload rate a massive 8 Mbit. I don't know why my actual download rate is higher than what I am paying for. Maybe that is the infamous "Power Boost" technology at work.

I put this internets to the real test and snagged a Fedora 10 x86-64 Live CD image with bittorrent. My DL speed hovered around 1.4 MB per second. That means the whole download took less than 10 minutes, for 700 MB! What can I say? I'm speechless at the speed. I guess the internets are fast again. Thanks, Comcast.

In an unrelated note, Windows 7 RC tends to randomly "black screen" which is to say, it reboots without warning. Most likely it is a driver issue. I'm considering moving the laptop to a dual-boot Windows Vista Home Premium (came with the laptop) and Ubuntu 8.10 (the last Ubuntu release that didn't totally suck on this laptop).
