Spammed Again By LinuxQuestions.org

Not only does LinuxQuestions.org spam users relentlessly, force you to log in to stop the spam, and generally have the crappiest forum software coded by lower primates, unchecking the "Receive Community Bulletins" checkbox in the account options page does not remove their spam from your inbox. Here is an open letter to the idiots who run LinuxQuestions.org:

You suck. Please read The CAN-SPAM Act.

Comment from linuxquestions:
FWIW, we *NEVER* send spam of any kind and take allegations of such quite seriously. Unchecking the "Receive Community Bulletins" checkbox immediately and automatically unsubscribes you from all future Community Bulletins. We're happy to look into your account if you'd like (I'll note that you certainly never contacted us about it), but please don't accuse us of something that's definitively false.
Comment from linuxquestions:
Also, sorry to hear that you don't like the forum software we use. I see that you do like StackOverflow. We have a Linux and Open Source-related StackExchange instance at http://linuxexchange.org/ which you may find preferable to LQ.
Comment from postfuturist:
linuxquestions, I had unchecked "Receive Community Bulletins" a long time ago. I did stop receiving the community bulletins. I made this post when, very recently, I received this email from forum@linuxquestions.org: "We noticed that you've been active at LinuxQuestions.org this year, but have never made a post at the site. We thought you'd like to know that we're currently giving away a few gratis subscriptions to Linux-related magazines and all you need to do to be elibible to win is make a single post. Visit http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-news-59/win-a-subscription-to-linux-pro-magazine-courtesy-of-lq-818559/page3.html#post4035446 for more information or simply click http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/ to visit the forums and make your first post." So, sorry, your advice about unchecking "Receive Community Bulletins" does not prevent email from your site.
Comment from linuxquestions:
You're correct - unchecking "Receive Community Bulletins" does not prevent ALL email from LQ... it simply unsubscribes you from the Community Bulletin newsletter (which the email above is in no way related to). There is a separate checkbox that actually will opt you out of ALL LQ-related email, not just the Community Bulletin.

linuxquestions, my criticism is that it is not immediately clear how to completely remove yourself from automated messages from linuxquestions--as is obvious from our exchange. Also, CAN-SPAM requires the ability to unsubscribe by visiting a single webpage. Forcing me to log in to a site that doesn't use OpenID or another shared authentication system means that I have to jump through hoops to reset my password on your system just so I can log in, just so I can stop the emails. It's not compliant. Any webpage that doesn't want to offend it's users creates a single, auto-unsubscribe link that works without forcing the user to log in, reset passwords, and dig through menus trying to find a not-so-obvious way to unsubscribe from all future messages. If you'd had an unsubscribe link that "just worked," then we'd all be happy right now. Also, have still not read CAN-SPAM, there are other requirements, like "Your message must include a clear and conspicuous explanation of how the recipient can opt out of getting email from you in the future." You failed that. Also, "Your message must include your valid physical postal address." Strike two. It's questionable whether you are in compliance with several other requirements of CAN-SPAM. That's why I sent you the link, but you obviously didn't read it.
